One of our wood product clients reached out to us with plans to install an aspiration ductwork on the wet bin return adjacent to the dryer infeed airlock. At the time, flakes were falling out of the seal and creating a housekeeping issue on the access platform. JBW was retained to design catch trays on each side of the airlock and connect them to an existing dust collection system. Prior to doing that, the potential dust collection system would be reviewed to identify the best location to send the material from the wet bin. Phase 1 engineering included a site visit to identify the dust collection pickup locations and to take velocity readings in the dust collection ductwork. This allowed us to review the available dust collection system capacities and identify a baghouse system that the ductwork should be tied into.
After a review was done to determine available space around the wet bin discharge, point cloud data was used to lay out the ductwork. It was determined that the existing Baghouse #1 was capable of being tied into and allowed for an efficient install that would be completed in parallel with a fines incline conveyor replacement project that would eliminate pickups on the existing Baghouse #1 system. Dust collection pickup points were added to the existing Baghouse #1 collection fan, while three pickup points were removed to allow for the additional hoods to be added to the system. Services included the coordination of the GreCon installation with a fire protection contractor. Structural design for miscellaneous supports for the new catch trays, cable tray, and ductwork was also provided. Phase 2 engineering also included electrical design to work with the mill electricians to finalize the GreCon system controls and integration into the existing fire panel and routing the cable tray from the new spark detect and extinguish nozzles to the fire panel. Final deliverables included issued for construction (IFC) drawing packages.
