JBW was retained to provide comprehensive engineering and design services for a new aspiration and ventilation system at a welding and fabrication facility that produces large equipment fixtures.
The client reached out to JBW as their facility was planning to move and consolidate multiple welding operations to a single building bay. The plan was to seal off the single bay from the rest of the plant and ensure proper heat ventilation. This would require a detailed analysis of make-up air and air balance with consideration of the new dust collection system and the make-up air requirements for other pieces of equipment in the bay, such as the heat treat oven.
JBW’s scope included developing construction drawing and specifications for the ventilation and aspiration systems, while also utilizing existing equipment such as the current Donaldson-Torit units and some existing fans. By utilizing some of the existing equipment, the client saved 20% on the project costs, while still achieving the project objective of employee comfort and safety.
The project followed a structured design process involving stakeholder meetings, preliminary and final drawing reviews and on-site construction support, ensuring that the new welding line in the single bay met the required safety and efficiency standards.
