Bryn Johnston, PE
Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Bryn Johnston, PE, is a mechanical engineer with over 12 years of engineering and project management experience in industrial facilities. His career spans as a Plant Engineer, Procurement Manager, construction laborer, and consultant, giving him a practical understanding of how projects move from concept through design, construction, and operation. He has spent significant time in industrial facilities performing system analyses, velocity measurements on ductwork, observing and inspecting construction, and troubleshooting complex systems.
Since establishing JBW in 2018, Mr. Johnston continues to serve as CEO and Principal-in-Charge, managing strategic client relationships and leading major projects to ensure successful outcomes for the firm’s industrial partners.
Nick Johnston, PE

Nick is a detail-oriented professional mechanical engineer with over 10 years of experience in design engineering, project management, and group management. His experience includes a variety of maintenance and capital improvement projects for heavy industrial industries, primarily in projects including material handling and machine design. He also has several years’ experience in plant engineering, reliability, and development of capital budgets and project management for a blown film extrusion manufacturer.
Kirk Davis, PE
Read Biography
Kirk is a licensed MN professional engineer with 18 years of experience in a wide range of projects including steel, concrete, aluminum, wood; commercial, industrial, residential: existing, historic, and new! He has developed specialties in existing and historic structures, cold-formed steel, mass timber, and construction engineering, experimental structural systems and materials, field-testing, and even some construction of his own.
He loves being onsite to see things go together and to be there to collaborate with contractors the most. His willingness to dive into the means and methods has given him a unique perspective and a keen eye for constructability.
Kirk holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis, has taught structures at the University of Minnesota as an Adjunct, and has many exciting projects we are still learning about.
Gary Johnston

Gary has over 30 years’ experience in equipment integrity. From design to fitness analysis and reliability to replacements and modifications, Gary brings a wealth of experience to every project. In his free time, Gary enjoys fishing, boating, and mountain biking. He was drawn to JBW because of the energy and enthusiasm of everyone working here.
Jamie Lepage, PE

Jamie has a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering and is a graduate of the US Navy Nuclear Propulsion program. His background includes work in the fields of both military and commercial nuclear energy, commercial power industry, mining, chemical and refining industry, and forest/paper products. In his free time, he volunteers as Assistant Fire Chief for the Hermantown Volunteer Fire Department. He chose to join JBW for the opportunity to work with Industrial design teams to design and then build large industrial projects.
Jordan Roberts, PE

Jordan graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2013 with a B.S. In Civil Engineering. During his career he has honed his skills in the civil and structural engineering field on projects ranging from civil site and utility design to steel building. He enjoys working with the passionate team at JBW who share the same morals and ethics, as well as the variety of projects encountered in the industrial and energy market sectors. When he’s not working he is spending time with his family, preferably outside camping or hunting. Jordan is a volunteer firefighter in northeast Wyoming, with training in structure and wild land firefighting, as well as emergency medical services.

Connor has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. His background includes woodworking, project management, and automation application development for end-users and OEMs. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, rafting, and cooking. He was drawn to JBW for its complementary skillsets in other engineering disciplines and its strong momentum in business growth.
Miles Wittlief, PE

Miles is a Professional Mechanical Engineer with over a decade of experience in project engineering and management success. His experience includes a variety of maintenance and capital improvement projects for the heavy industrial industries focusing on material handling and processing. When not at work Miles enjoys being out in the woods on his sxs or snowmobile.
Kurt Schwartzbauer, PE

Kurt has over 7 years of experience in the Civil Engineering industry with a focus on environmental, slope stability, and construction site design. Kurt enjoys solving practical problems within a team of engineers and like-minded individuals. In his free time, he enjoys board games, camping, and cooking with his wife.
Kyle Levanen, PE

Kyle has over 10 years of experience spread between the automotive and industrial fields. He brings more than 5 years of instrumentation and controls experience to the JBW team and specializes in process design, instrumentation and controls, and dust hazard analysis studies. Kyle enjoys the flexible work schedule that JBW provides.

Jared’s experience includes years as an API 510, 570, and 653 certified inspector as well as over 3 years experience in design. Jared enjoys the high levels of teamwork and camaraderie within the JBW team.
Cassandra Johnson

Cassie has over 18 years of experience in the Structural Design industry with a focus on Industrial steel access platforms, duct supports and concrete support and slab design. Cassie enjoys taking on complex multi discipline projects working alongside her team of designers and drafters. In her free time, she enjoys spending time boating and fishing with her husband and dog & cruising the water with her friends and family.
Shelly Johnston

Shelly has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a MBA. She has worked in a variety of settings from small business to large corporations. In her free time, Shelly likes to garden, exercise, read, DIY, and spend time with friends and family. She enjoys JBW’s ethical and driven leadership.

Emily brings over 10 years of experience in management and customer service, with a diverse background in marketing, IT, project management, and customer relations. She is eager to apply her skills and support the team in every way possible. Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending quality time with her family and dogs, creating pottery and other crafts, and tackling home improvement projects.

Aurora Bu

Aurora is a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she earned her master’s degree in finance. Prior to graduating and joining JBW, Aurora had many internships in financial analysis and accounting areas, making her the perfect candidate for the Staff Accountant role. She has a great passion for her first full-time position with JBW Consulting and is excited to grow with the company. In her spare time, Aurora enjoys writing novels, playing RPG games and planting jasmine and succulents.
Patrick Claypool

Pat has over 30 years of experience improving decision support systems, manufacturing operations and maintenance, and project management. He’s known for his ability to bring clarity and structure to complex situations and for finding practical solutions to unexpected challenges. As a Senior Project Manager at JBW, Pat is proud to be part of a team whose values align closely with his own. He believes strong client relationships are essential to project success and enjoys working alongside others to remove barriers and keep projects moving forward. Outside of work, Pat loves being outdoors. You can find him on a river fly fishing, a lake kayaking (and fishing), in the mountains hiking and hunting, or on his property mowing blackberries.
Alexander Smith, PE

In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time with his family, doing house projects, and watching rugby union.
Donald Iversen, PE

Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Since 2008, he has built experience across engineering and construction management, with a strong background in industrial projects and additional experience in commercial and residential design. Over the past 12 years, Don has led and managed a variety of commercial and residential projects, bringing a practical, solutions-focused approach to every stage of project delivery.
At JBW, Don is excited to apply his experience to helping clients solve challenges, build strong relationships, and deliver successful outcomes across the industrial sector. He values collaboration and enjoys being part of a team that works together to remove barriers and create meaningful solutions.
Outside of work, Don enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, walking his dog, golfing, and playing guitar.
Joel Ende, PE

Joel has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Dakota State University. His professional experience spans project management in both manufacturing and industrial settings, along with a strong foundation in structural engineering. Outside of his engineering career, Joel serves his community as a Fire Lieutenant and EMT with the Rogers Fire Department. When he’s not working or responding to emergencies, you’ll likely find him enjoying the outdoors and spending quality time with his wife, Emma. Joel was drawn to JBW by the strong leadership and the desire to join a team of likeminded engineers eager to solve problems.

She enjoys the puzzles and problem solving that an engineering career provides. In her free time, Sarah enjoys playing video games, reading, DIY home improvement projects and exploring the great outdoors that Colorado has to offer.
Luke Koski, PE

Luke has four years of structural engineering experience in the agricultural and industrial sectors. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Minnesota and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Luke was drawn to JBW by the positive culture and the opportunities offered by a young and growing company. He looks forward to working with like‑minded individuals on industrial projects. Outside of work, Luke enjoys spending time with his family, doing home improvement projects, and fitting in some hunting and mountain biking when time permits.

Brian is a graduate of Dunwoody College of Technology, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree with a focus in Architectural Drafting and Estimating Technology. With more than 18 years of experience in the agricultural and industrial engineering industries, he has contributed to a wide range of projects, including the Port of Greater Baton Rouge Facility Renovation, the Pipeline Foods / Paterson Grain Saint Mary’s terminal greenfield design and double pearling line addition, and the Vancouver Harbour Cargill Grain Export Terminal Renovations.
Brian values building strong relationships with clients and colleagues while helping solve complex challenges in practical and effective ways. He is motivated by the opportunity to take on new challenges and continue delivering meaningful results for JBW Consulting Engineers and its clients. Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, working on home projects, and golfing.

Corey Smith

Corey is a graduate from Grambling State University with a degree in drafting/design technology and continued his education in civil engineering at Southern Poly Technical State University. He has over 25 years of experience as a Structural Designer and has worked on many notable projects such as the Mercedes Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, BMW manufacturing facilities, Meta Facebook Data Center and Air Pollution Control Technologies, as well as industries including wood products, pulp and paper and biomass/biofuel. He finds being a Structural Designer exciting, because he gets to be part of a team that creates solutions by bringing structure into life. Corey looks forward to learning and growing with JBW as a Structural Designer II, where he can be a team player and help his co-workers grow as well. He really loves spending time with his family and friends outside of work, as well as traveling and trying different food and loves to teach and minister to people.
Hunter Roberts

Hunter has previous experience in the HVAC-R mechanical field, as well as surveying and Civil design and currently assists with design of all disciplines, with a focus on Structural. Coming to JBW from a law enforcement career, Hunter enjoys implementing the same problem-solving and interactive skills when working with clients and team members to find solutions to best serve their clients. Hunter spends his free time pursuing a wide range of hobbies and side projects, from 3D printing design and computer building to serving Northeast Wyoming as a licensed Realtor(TM).

Anil earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University and the University of Calgary. With over 50 years of industry experience, Anil’s passion for solving energy problems by implementing energy reduction programs, improving the efficiency and use of renewable energy that could shape the future is what drew him to come out of retirement and join JBW Consulting Engineers. Beyond his day-to-day work, Anil likes to spend his free time researching about the advancements in science and engineering. He is a Life Senior Member of IEEE and absolutely loves the world of engineering and is always eager to take on new challenges.

He has over fifteen years of experience in the industrial manufacturing sector, specializing in power distribution, electrical planning, automation engineering, machine controls, and Human Machine Interface creation. John focuses on uptime and modernizing equipment controls while leading an Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance team. In his spare time, he enjoys fly fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with friends and family.
Cordell Stramer

Cordell studied Mechanical Engineering at Montana State University and upon graduation worked in the injection molding industry. With a 4-year background working in manufacturing automation and product development, Cordell is excited to work on projects keeping end-users and operators at the forefront of designs. In his free time, he enjoys a variety of activities including snowboarding, backpacking, fly fishing, and hunting.
Haynes Stone

Haynes grew up in Virginia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Christopher Newport University. He went on to Montana State University, where he received his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. During his studies, Haynes focused on industrial controls and SCADA, optics and photonics, microfabrication and MEMS, and leadership. Professionally, he has worked as a production engineer manufacturing nanotubes and laser crystals. Haynes is excited to continue developing his expertise in controls and automation and to help clients bring their projects to fruition. Outside of JBW, he trains and teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu and enjoys combining this passion with his love of travel.
Toby Erickson

Toby graduated from Macomb Community College in Michigan where he earned his Associates of Applied Science in Product Development, from there he went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Over the last 8 years, Toby has been focused on product and hardware design in the automotive industry, where he worked on a newly implemented fully electronic brake module, which he was responsible for the main computer and motor controller of the electronic control unit. He is looking forward to learning more about the electrical engineering field outside of automotive and is excited about the personal growth potential it offers and the ability to meet and work with new clients and co-workers. Outside of work, you can find Toby engaging in various indoor and outdoor activities that require extensive physical effort and allow him to be immersed in the beauty of nature! When he’s not doing that, he enjoys visiting with family and hanging out with friends.

Lance has over four years of electrical BIM modeling and coordination experience. Prior to that, he worked in the automotive industry as a powertrain evaluation engineer. One of the things that Lance enjoys most is when he is able teach others, especially when he can see it click. Outside of work Lance enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. He looks forward to being part of the JBW Electrical team and hopes that his skills and experience will help expand our capabilities.
Chris Peterson

Chris brings 30 plus years of hands-on experience improving the efficiency, safety and effectiveness of dust collection systems, pneumatic conveying systems and specialized mill equipment. Chris combines technical expertise with real-world operational leadership.
He has been heavily involved with projects in nearly every type of wood or biomass processing facility. His background allows him to understand challenges from both the engineering and maintenance perspectives, and he is known for creative, practical problem-solving when tackling complex customer issues.
As a member of JBW, he is excited to join a team that shares his belief that strong relationships are the key to building trusted and effective partnerships with customers. He enjoys working collaboratively with clients and teammates to remove barriers, think outside the box, and deliver reliable, high-quality systems and service.
Outside of work he operates a 40-acre hobby farm where he grows a small hazelnut orchard, raises horses, donkeys, and cattle. Fishing and crabbing are longtime passions, and he feels there is no better place to enjoy them than in Oregon.

Andrew holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering and brings four years of experience in the design and manufacturing of passive electronics. Skilled in FEA and 3D modeling to support and enhance design processes, he’s excited to expand his expertise by working on a variety of mechanical engineering projects and collaborating with the JBW team. Mariah has 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer working in industrial consulting. Her experience includes engineering improvements to critical infrastructure for mining, power, and oil and gas industries including equipment selection, piping analysis, and layouts. Keith holds an associate’s degree in mechanical design, and has 6 years of experience in various industries, including paint booth manufacturing, water/wastewater treatment facilities, boilers, retail, airports, military bases, food plants, and commercial buildings. He enjoys being able to design real world solutions and understanding how things work together. He’s excited to join a small, yet growing team while working in new and different industries. Outside of work, you can find Keith living an active lifestyle from golfing, fishing, bowling, hiking, and going on vacations with his family.
Nolan Gulbranson

Nolan holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree from the University of North Texas, where he studied business, logistics and computer aided design. Nolan previously worked in precision CNC machining for medical device companies for over 12 years, where he was first introduced to CAD design. He has over 9 years of experience in CAD Drafting and Design, with most of that time working as a designer in the material handling industry. Outside of work, Nolan likes to tinker with computers, cars, and all things mechanical. He enjoys roller blading, hiking, and listening to science and technology podcasts. Nolan appreciates the team-oriented culture that JBW has to offer, as well as the interesting types of design projects the company is involved in.
Terrell Swanson

Terrell graduated from UMN with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked in avionics previously. He is always up for a challenge and learning something new that he can apply to the projects he’s on. Most of his time outside of work is spent parenting his two kids, playing disc golf, and planning for board game nights with friends.

Outside of work and school, he enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing and skiing, as well as watching sports. Jack is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Dunwoody College of Technology. His hands-on experience includes hydraulic manifold assembly, residential framing, light equipment repair, and food truck system installation and fabrication, giving him a strong practical foundation alongside his academic studies.
Eager to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, Jack values the opportunity to grow professionally while contributing meaningfully to the team at JBW Consulting Engineers. He enjoys problem-solving and building things both on and off the job, whether tackling practical projects or bringing new ideas to life. Outside of work and school, Jack enjoys wake surfing, restoring his grandfather’s car, working on his motorcycle, snowmobiling, sailing, listening to music, and playing guitar.
