JBW was engaged to provide a structural analysis of 170′ long screening conveyor supports for a custom conveyor equipment supplier for a sanitation plant in Orange County California. The understanding of the project was that the conveyor would be placed onto an existing structure, and the entire structure of the conveyor system would require analysis, including a small platform between two buildings supported off the conveyor system. The conveyor would also be located partially indoors, and partially outdoors, and needed to be designed for the appropriate environmental loading. Per the supplier, the conveyor would be moving material with a density of 50 pounds per cubic foot. Because of this, the structural analysis would need to include an environmental loading analysis, specifically for seismic and wind, as well as any others that may be applicable.
JBW’s scope of work included reviewing the supplier’s design model, the scope and specifications provided by the sanitation plant and applicable codes for the analysis. Final deliverables included a complete 3D structural model for analysis along with a final stamped package including a list of reactions for the building/foundation engineer.
