JBW was retained to provide engineering services for a facility wide compressed air system improvement and capacity increase project. The purpose of the project was to engineer and design a compressed air system to provide service to three different production lines with 50+ compressed air users requiring 80psi with airflows ranging from 3 to 220 scfm.

JBW mapped user locations in the facility in order to determine pipe header runs, air compressor, air dryer and buffer tank locations. JBW then performed air flow analysis to determine the pipe header sizes and air supply rates needed from the compressors. Five 1000 gal buffer tanks were selected, and configured as three wet tanks and two dry tanks to allow for sufficient air storage capacity. Three 1000 cfm 250 hp compressor/dryer combinations were selected and configured so that one compressor/dryer combo could under go maintenance without stopping production.

Once piping routes and equipment locations were agreed upon by the owner, JBW generated certified detailed piping drawings and Issued For Construction P&IDs. Additionally JBW coordinated with the client and electical engineering team on lock out tag out locations and design to improve safety & reduce downtime during equipment shutdowns.

The result was a safe, successful installation and ongoing operation of the system.
