Debarker Replacement

JBW Consulting Engineers completed a Debarker replacement project for a wood product client in Two Harbors, MN. The client initially reached out as they had a Nicholson A5 debarker that needed replacement due to maintenance reasons. The debarker was to be replaced with a Nicholson A8 model, that was slightly wider. This replacement required modifications and evaluations of the hydraulic system, compressed air system, chute, platform and support structure.

During the design phase, JBW discovered additional scope that was not anticipated at the initial outreach. The additional services would include electrical work, including an additional power circuit for a pump unit as well as the inclusion of a light curtain into the controls. It was also requested to provide on-site construction administration support during the construction phase of the debarker installation as well as during an outage period for an additional project. Overall, we were able to provide the client with a full scope of services including mechanical, structural and electrical engineering and design, as well as an on-site inspection and on-site construction administration support.
