A previous client of JBW’s reached out for support in replacing their current IRD explosion suppression cannons for one of their McConnel bins with CV Technology flameless vents and HRD suppression cannons. This upgrade stemmed from the cannons requiring quarterly maintenance from the plant team and an annual visit from the manufacturer. These were maintenance items/costs that the client was looking to reduce or eliminate. JBW was hired to work with the facility and CV Technology to supply engineering for the installation of new equipment.
This project would also require the installation of an isolation airlock and inlet chute between the existing cyclone and the McConnel bin. To install the airlock and chute, the cyclone was raised and supported on new structural steel. Modifications to the access platforms and ladders were completed to allow for the installation of the new equipment.
Additionally, electrical design services were provided for updating the PLC/HMI programs, which included working with the vendor and client on modifying the existing safety control strategy to work with the new equipment. JBW’s electrical team was able to integrate the suppression cannon signals to the plant PLC and set up new alarms and data trending. They also provided support to the operator/maintenance team for a smooth handoff.
