JBW was engaged to provide design and engineering services for the installation of biogas flare systems at six manure digester facilities located across Minnesota and South Dakota. The scope of work included the design of gas piping infrastructure to safely route and combust residual biogas from on-site storage ponds.
JBW’s responsibilities included site-specific design of flare locations, piping connections from both the biogas fuel systems and pilot gas sources, and coordination with flare equipment vendors. Detailed site visits were conducted to assess layout constraints, identify potential obstructions, and determine optimal placement of the flare systems.
The engineering scope encompassed gas piping code compliance, vendor P&ID reviews, and flare location analysis, as well as specification and sizing of piping, valves, and meters not included in the vendor packages. JBW also coordinated closely with gas suppliers and facility personnel to confirm pilot fuel supply routing and connections.
Comprehensive mechanical and civil design services were provided, including flare foundation design, site general arrangement drawings, and detailed piping layouts for both pilot and waste gas lines.
Final deliverables included issued-for-review and issued-for-construction drawing packages, a Flare Equipment Design Basis document, and detailed documentation for underground gas piping and flare placement per regulatory requirements.
