- Facility, Process, and Equipment Evaluation — JBW has team members with extensive knowledge and specialties in combustible dust hazards who can analyze the hazards present in your facility.
Position Location: Hybrid - Duluth or Minneapolis, MN
The ideal candidate for this role will live in the Duluth-Twin Ports or Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area. Consideration will be given to candidates looking to move to our other office locations of Bozeman, MT and Gillette, WY. Must reside in the United States. JBW participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
Responsibilities
Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations

- Must have an entrepreneurial attitude and be willing to tackle different tasks as they arise.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to integrate control systems into industrial facilities and machinery.
- Use AutoCAD Electrical and Revit software to draft electrical and controls designs for power, controls, and equipment layout construction documentation.
- Develop control strategies and logic for industrial processes, including specifying instrumentation and control hardware.
- Program and configure PLCs, automation PC’s, DCS, and SCADA systems to meet project requirements.
- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of control systems to ensure functionality and reliability, including loop checks and motor rotation checks.
- Lead commissioning and startup of control systems on-site using database style progress tracking systems.
- Provide technical support to clients and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and operation phases.
- Work in collaboration with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of control systems with overall facility design, including coordination of equipment layout and interconnection.
- Travel up to 25% to industrial sites, client offices, or coordinate with onsite teams as required. Site visits may require 12hr or longer days.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency in programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) to develop control logic.
- Expertise in developing detailed functional descriptions and specifications for control systems.
- Familiarity with HMI and SCADA systems for designing user interfaces and data visualization.
- Ability to use CAD software to draft electrical and controls designs from MCC single lines I/O loop diagrams.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP) for system integration.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic components, sensors, actuators, and motor control circuits.
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug control systems using diagnostic tools and simulation software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for optimizing system performance.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508, NFPA 70E) for ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate control systems into larger engineering projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field with coursework or experience in control systems from an ABET accredited program.
- Experience in designing control panels, including layout, wiring schematics, and component selection, following industry standards.
- 1-8 years of relevant experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- PE license is not required, but we encourage obtaining within 5 years of employment at JBW.
