Project Summary

JBW Consulting Engineers provided a proposal to install an in-line screen washing system on Line 1 at a facility. The new equipment was to be installed in the press pit area near the screen incline conveyor, requiring modifications to the existing conveyor and frame/structure to accommodate the new screen washer frame, accordion coil, and collection trough. Additionally, new piping systems for process supply water, compressed air, and wastewater disposal were necessary.

To initiate the project, JBW conducted a one-day site visit with two individuals to perform point cloud scanning of the conveyors in the screen wash area during an outage day. The mechanical design phase involved evaluating the proposed location of the screen wash equipment, considering equipment clearances, operator access, and spacing constraints. JBW designed the necessary modifications to the conveyor leg and support, the ultra-high pressure (UHP) piping from the UHP pump to the screen wash unit, the process water supply piping, and the wastewater piping system, which included the reservoir tank, wastewater pump, pipe routing, and pipe supports for discharging wastewater to the existing wastewater pit.

The electrical design phase included sizing cable trays and power cables for 80A and 15A feeds from the MCC room to the equipment supply points. JBW provided comprehensive deliverables, including IFR (Issued for Review), IFB (Issued for Bid), and IFC (Issued for Construction) drawing packages. These packages comprised mechanical screen wash plans, sections, and details; mechanical conveyor demo and modification plans, sections, and details; mechanical compressed air, process water, UHP, and wastewater piping plans, sections, and details; electrical general arrangement; electrical device and power cable list; and electrical and mechanical scope of work documents.

This thorough approach ensured the effective integration of the new screen washing system into the existing infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and compliance with engineering standards.
