Autograder Project

Project Summary

JBW Consulting Engineers provided mechanical engineering design services to address issues with four 24” belt conveyors on Line 1, which were impacting the functionality of new auto-grading lasers. The lasers were detecting false quality issues due to paint buildup on the conveyor belts. To resolve this, JBW designed modifications to reroute the belt path below the pass line, involving the addition of four idler pulleys, new bearing mounting plates, and alterations to the existing conveyor frame.

Additionally, JBW addressed reliability problems with the Auto Grading board reject paint marking system, which frequently experienced clogs and required frequent maintenance. Coordination with the paint manufacturer, supplier, and plant staff was conducted to explore potential system improvements. The project deliverables included detailed mechanical drawings for the conveyor modifications and a recommendation memo for enhancing the reject board marking system.
